The one sitting in the middle of President Ma and Rep. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. is my college classmate, who is serving as President Ma’s oral interpretor. Good for her! Hopefully, I can invite her to give you guys a speech concerning her experience of doing consecutive interpretation for the Office of the President, ROC. May you strengthen your English proficiency and follow in her footsteps in the near future!

The Tropology of Homosexuality and the Postmodern Dismemberment of Tradition/Meaning in Niu Chen-zer’s Monga

A postmodern gang flick, Monga, starring Ethan Ruan and Mark Chao, deals with a tale of gang brotherhood and loyalty. Even though most of the film critics, inclusive of Tien-hsian Wen, focus their attention upon how Monga or part of Taipei’s Wan-hua District is portrayed or interpreted by way of Chen-zher Niu’s cinematic lens or how masculine brotherhood is played out and constructed. However, what has really aroused my curiosity and interest in this film is the symbolic connotation of Monk’s hidden queer/homosexual identity (played by Ethan Ruan) and the importance of Chen-zher Niu’s intentional postmodern dismantling of tradition/meaning. The above two themes embedded in this film unfold as follows.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians(The Lightning Thief…)

9 二月, 2010

Of late, I’ve squeezed some time out of my tight schedule to indulge myself in reading the fifth episode of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians," which has indeed catered to my taste so far. Much to your surprise, I haven’t watched the recently released cinematic adaptation grounded upon the first episode of the Olympian series because on occasion, compared with novels, the filmic adaptaions may not measure up to my highly demanding expectation. Hence, I high recommend that you’d better go buy or borrow these books and engross yourselves in them. I’m sure that when perusing them, you’d be not merely thrilled with and amused by the entertaining story plots but also swamped with the numerous allusions to Greek myths in them.

What it Takes To Succeed in English

Peter Lai (2005)
Eager students wanting to know the secrets of success in English often approach me. While there is no magic pill that will help you learn the language overnight, I do have a formula that worked for me and that I guarantee will work for others if they put forth the effort. I had to go through this learning process on my own, but I share my experience freely because I want to pass on the gift of English to others. This language has opened up doors for me, and I believe that it can do the same for others.

As can be anticipated, those who score high in this year’s English writing tests not only narrate their stories in a logical and smooth manner but create an innovative plot for the comic strips as well.
